Shirley Ave Participatory Budgeting

The Shirley Avenue District Public Realm Guidelines demonstrate a vision for future growth by combining proposed streetscape and public outdoor space improvements with guidelines for new development to enhance this vibrant mixed-use main street.
Spring 2023
The City sets aside up to $260,000 of federal CDBG ("Community Development Block Grant") funding for public realm improvements in the neighborhood. The City also commits $15,000 in public art funding, received through a regional arts "Make it Public" grant, towards a project in the neighborhood.

In person kick-off to the participatory budgeting process. Learn more about the participatory budgeting process and share your ideas with your community! Our participatory budgeting team will be available at the volunteer day to receive community feedback about how the available City funds should be spent. The volunteers, organized by The Neighborhood Developers as part of "National NeighborWorks Week," will also help to restore a sidewalk mural at Sandler Square.

Join us please at Shirley Ave's Farmers Market at Sandler Square to share your ideas for public realm improvements in the neighborhood on our pop-up community idea board. Please note: the mobile farmers market will be coming to Sandler Square every two weeks, on Saturday mornings starting June 10 and ending September 30.

The City of Revere and a focus group of neighborhood stakeholders will determine a realistic cost for ideas proposed by the community in phase one. The focus group will prepare 1-page "proposals" to be voted on by community members.
November 22 - December 31
Community members will cast their ballot and indicate which of the proposals developed in phase two should be funded with the $275,000 available.
Early 2024 and beyond
This is when the spending starts and the change happens! Project implementation will begin. CDBG funds must be committed to projects by September 2024.
